Best Medical Treatments & Remedies For Acne

Follow me to see most workable prescription and OTC (over-the-counter) medicines for acne and pimples treatment.

Try step by step.  The first two options are OCT and 3 to 5 must be prescribed.
1. Benzoyl Peroxide
This can dry up acne vulgaris. Very popular.  Many brads available such as Brevoxyl and Benzac.
2. Salicylic Acid
Many people find it is also effective. Products containing salicylic acid include Propa pH and Stridex.

3. Topical Antibiotics
Medical practitioners often prescribe antibiotic creams, gels or lotions which are applied directly to the pimples as the first step for external use.

4. Oral Antibiotics
This treatment often helps acne scars to heal so it is more likely to be used where the acne is deep or is producing scarring.

Anyway, taking oral antibiotic can kill the healthy bacteria in the stomach and the result can be an overgrowth of candida, leading to yeast infections.  To prevent it, you can buy probiotics from any health food store to repopulates the healthy bacteria. I would like to suggest that it is better to treat the candidiasis first, if you think that you already have an overgrowth of candida. You may surprisingly find that acne improves or even disappears when the yeast is under control.
Note : Candidiasis is not so likely to be a problem for teenagers, but is sometimes involved in adult acne.

5. Prescription Retinoids
Retinoids are related to vitamin A. For external use, as with antibiotics, you can get topical retinoids in the form of creams or gels which are applied directly to pimples (e.g.brand Retin-A, Differin, Tazorac).  Retinoids can irritate the skin so in some cases the acne gets worse before it gets better.

There are also oral retinoids that you take internally, such as Accutane. These usually take several months to have an effect. Oral retinoids should only be taken under medical supervision  because there can be side effects and overdose is dangerous. For pregnant women, taking retinoids can cause birth defects, so oral retinoids are more likely to be prescribed for men as a medical treatment for vulgaris.

To get best acne treatmentresult, it is highly recommended to integrate knowledge of all possible causes and reasons of the disease.  Either traditional wisdom in alternative treatment like Chinese medical treatment, Ayurvedic Medicine or modern science as we call conventional treatment is purposed to fix acne problem and worth to learn.  Next page will give you more ideas about what is alternative medicine, integrated medicine and conventional medicine.
