Will I go bald?

I had terrible headache and could not sleep well last night.  When woke up, I found hair loss spread over the pillow!  It has never happened before.  Is this natural hair loss or a sign of baldness?

Ok, take a deep breath.  I do not want to get more stress.  I know that hair falls everyday.  But how do we know it is normal or not.

We have about 100,000 hair on the head and it is likely to fall every day.

Lifespan is about 3 years, before it will be taken to stop the growth phase.  The new hair will grow very vicious cycle like a tree.  Technically, there are 3 periods of growth, Anagen, Catagen and Telogen which are defined by age, food intake, hormones and heredity.


Growing period will be shorter when we get older and the rate of loss per day will be more.

When we are in the Telogen, hair will stop growing and do not grow longer again. Anyway, hair cells will return to the Anagen phase.  Then either brush or shampoo hair will not cause more hair loss because it is ready to fall.  This is natural.  We do not have to worry though your hair is falling every day. 

But take a note that normally it should not fall over 100 lines per day.

Are there other reasons for hair loss?  Yes, there are many reasons and I do not think this page will be long enough.   Let’s pick up one.  Have you ever heard that men begin to bald at the age of 30.  In men case, the reason of hair loss or baldness may be heredity.

In Anagen period, hair of the men with bald inherited condition will be gradually smaller, thinner and shorter.  Hair does not fall more than normal. But the density of the hair is less. 

Hereditary hair loss is influenced by androgen, which is a hormone found in men. This hormone actions on the hair follicle, may be because the hair follicle is sensitive to androgen.  This hair disorder is found in both females and males. However, we can see a receding hairline or baldness in men more than women.

It is unfortunate that there is no permanent remedy right now.  They may have to take dose like Finasteride to inhibit the hormone (Dihydro testosterone ) that will destroy hair follicle.  However, medical treatment which resists the effects of the hormone androgen may have side effect that would make you look more feminine eg. treble voice,  chest up and  sexual sensation decrease.  Other drug treatments like Minoxidil which is used to treat high blood pressure in patients using other drugs do not work may be another choice for hair loss treatment.
