Cholesterol itself
is not bad, it is actually essential for the body to function properly and to
build cell membranes, vitamin D, hormones, and bile acids. Cholesterol becomes
a topic when there is the presence of high levels
of cholesterol in the blood or Hypercholesterolemia and people struggle
to decrease cholesterol after eating their favorite junk foods.
Hypercholesterolemia
is not a disease but a metabolic derangement that can be caused by many
diseases, notably cardiovascular disease. It is closely related to the terms
"hyperlipidemia" (elevated levels of lipids in the blood) and
"hyperlipoproteinemia" (elevated levels of lipoproteins in the
blood).
Too much cholesterol in the blood, or high cholesterol, can be severe. Some
of the major symptoms of high blood cholesterol are excess fatigue and feel of
uneasiness, pain and heaviness in the chest area, breathlessness and general
fatigue. People with high cholesterol have a higher risk of heart disease.
Cholesterol
can accumulate in the walls of the arteries (blood vessels that carry blood
from the heart to other body parts). This buildup of cholesterol is called
plaque (Plaka). With time, plaque can cause narrowing of the arteries. This is
called atherosclerosis (ATH-er-oO - if Skleros), or hardening of the arteries.
Usually
cholesterol is produced in the liver and it is one of the essential ingredients
of our body. 20-30% of the cholesterol is obtained from the food we eat.
Cholesterol or lipoproteins are classified into two types - “bad” LDL cholesterol (Low density lipoprotein ) and
“good” HDL cholesterol (High density lipoprotein ) HDLs
are transporters that carry excess cholesterol to the liver where it can be
broken down. LDL is related with cholesterol deposits in blood vessels and it
is also considered to be harmful. It may result into the problems like stroke,
heart disease etc. whereas HDL helps to remove the cholesterol from the
circulation and also reduces the risk of heart disease. High cholesterol can
only usually be detected through a blood test. The ideal levels of HDL are over
40 mg/dL and for LDL, under 100 mg/dL.
There are
many ways to reduce cholesterol, below are simple
but workable tips.
1.Take low
fat diet.
2.Do regular
exercise in the morning
3.Avoid meat
products.
4.Do not
smoke and drink alcohol.
5.Loose
weight if obese.
6.Include
forage and fibrous foods in the diet.
7.Use
sunflower or safflower oil for cooking.
8.Drink
plenty of water.
9.Avoid
ghee, butter, cream, white flour, sugar, cakes, pies, cookies, cheese and ice
cream.
Higher cholesterol
level from diabetes or high sugar blood treatment may require special treatment. But in most case, higher bad cholesterols are
the result of the food intake and some social behavior. Above dietary for
higher cholesterol is strongly recommended though some people with high
cholresterol problems may choose a quick cholesterol treatment option. Actually,
it is easier to take cholesterol medications and wait until cholesterol level
drops. But how do you know which medications are the most effective cholesterol
treatment option. Do we have other treatments for cholesterol problem?
